“We live our lives like Jesus”

Portsmouth: City of Sanctuary

Working alongside Portsmouth City of Sanctuary means our school has shown a clear commitment to making sure every child and family feels welcomed, safe, and supported to thrive. Safeguarding is our highest priority.
The Schools of Sanctuary programme is not political — it simply helps schools to understand why people seek safety and to lead with kindness and humanity.
We are proud to be a school where every child feels safe, where individual needs are understood, and where pupils are equipped to be kind and thoughtful members of our community.

'Every stranger who knocks on our door is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ,' Pope Francis.

By fostering a safe and welcoming school for new arrivals, we embody the example of Jesus, showing that we respect, love, and support each individual as He did. This commitment helps us create and nurture an inclusive, supportive, and diverse community, where everyone feels valued and accepted. We embrace diversity, ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, experiences a sense of belonging and security. In doing so, we not only live out our mission but also build a community that reflects the inclusive and loving nature of Jesus.

As a school, we are working with Portsmouth City of Sanctuary to build on the work we do in welcoming and supporting families and are working towards becoming a recognised 'School of Sanctuary'.

“We support the ‘City of Sanctuary’ vision that the UK will be a welcoming place of safety for all and proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.

We endorse the City of Sanctuary Charter, and agree to act in accordance with City of Sanctuary values and apply the network principles within our work (as far as our specific context enables us to).

We recognise the contribution of people seeking sanctuary. Sanctuary seekers are welcomed, included and supported within our context. We expect our branches or local groups (if any) to support their local City of Sanctuary group if one exists, and will facilitate contact between them and their local City of Sanctuary group.”
